What is Peer Massage?
Peer Massage is the practise of daily massages lasting 10-15 minutes per day by children, for children.
The practise of peer massage, usually aimed at children aged 4-12 years old, involves the grouping of children in pairs and each child administers simple massage strokes, whilst fully clothed, to the head, neck, arms, shoulders and back of their partner. This raises self-esteem, confidence and calms & soothes the central nervous system which in turn relaxes the child receiving a peer massage.
Why use Peer Massage?
It not only calms and relaxes children in a confined or stressful environment but it also instils trust in their fellow classmates. This ensures a relaxed, vibrant and enthusiastic environment perfect for furthering a child’s education without the distractions of rowdy, unruly pupils.
The practise of peer massage is not just confined to an educational environment; we also suggest massage by peers be carried out in a home environment – ideally between siblings. This method of massage has seen many results of lowering sibling rivalry, bickering and anxiety – particularly between children of the same age.
What benefits does Peer Massage have to my child?
Not only does peer massage calm, relax and remove anxiety from children, it also builds confidence and respect for their fellow pupils, siblings and partners. When a child partakes in peer massage, with consent, the effects are simply amazing.
Many children experience a reduction in aggression, appear happier and more active, are more interactive during tutoring and experience a happier & friendly atomosphere – all because of peer massage.
